Mexican Wedding

May 26, 2014

Hello Fam bam!

This week we didn't so well, but some good things still happened!!!

Our investigator got married! Woo hoo! She has lived w ith her husband for 5 years and for the last few months she has wanted to be baptized but was not married and it took some work but she is all ready to be baptized this week! We got permission to go to the civil register place ( I don´t know what to call it in English) to see the wedding. Which was really just them signing some papers but it was still fun.

Found some bongos!
This week had some super hot days!!!! And some rainy days too. Heavenly Father loves us because the last couple days it rained really hard when we were in a lesson and then when we left the house it stopped and it happened a couple times and also when we returned to our house that night it started pouring right as we walked in and it didnt stop for about an hour. Bendiciones.

I try lots of random fruit every week. Sometimes we buy our fruit in the Mercado , which is a little ways from where we live. It is super fun. Tons and tons of fruits and vegetables. Tons of mangos too!!!! The Mercado is fun, I will ta ke a picture next time. It puts all the Farmers Markets I have been to to shame.

Internet Cafe
I am speaking better Spanish and participating in lessons more. I feel good and I love being a missionary.

It is not uncommon to walk down the street and see someone chopping away at something with a machete.

At night we see little frogs and  they scare  Hermana Martinez but I think they are cute.
I love you all and hope you all have a wonderful week!
Pictures include a photo from the wedding, a picture of the cyber that we are writing in right now, and some bongos I found.

Three Months

May 19, 2014

Today is my 3 month mark. Whoa.

Crazy news. There is a Fleischer family not too far from my area. My companion went to some training in Merida on Wednesday and I was adopted by 2 other hermanas for the day. We were visiting members and different people and a couple people noticed my name and said that there was a family of Fleischers in the area. We were going to go meet them but my companion came back and so I went back to my area, but in our zone meeting today, the Hermanas in that area told me that they met the family and they are indeed Fleischers!!! They are from Germany and their family left during a war and they are less active members.... that is all the information I have about them right now haha.
But we are going to plan a family home evening with them and I am going to bring my family tree. I am so sure they are long lost relatives and I feel like this is destiny that we have been brought together in Campeche. I will definitely let you know how it goes when it happens.

Taco shop with Hmna Garcia
Today we had our zone meeting with 2 zones and President and Hermana Garcia too! Afterwards all the missionaries went and ate at a taco shop. About 40 missionaries or so. It was fun.

I hope everything is going super well at home!!
My fear of dogs and bugs have decreased significantly.

One thing that we have been recently asked to do a lot is read the book of mormon with our investigators, and find members to come and read it with them. I think we often underestimate the power in this book but really there is tons. A special and interesting experience I had this week was we were in a lesson and we read a verse together, I had no idea what it meant (book of mormon vocab in Spanish is still a little tricky for me), but I felt a warm feeling in my heart and the Holy Ghost testified to me that the Libro de Mormon is true. I know that the Spirit doesn't speak in English or Spanish, but speaks to our hearts.

Hello Again!

May 12, 2014

Mother's Day Skype sesh
It was so good to you people yesterday! It passed by way too fast.
Well I don't have a lot of new things to tell you haha.
Good news is that we didn't have cambios!!! Which means that Hna Martinez and I will be in this area for 6 more weeks. (or longer)

My favorite part of the mission is just all the wonderful people. Investigators, members, everyone. And the people in our area are gems.

I have officially been in the mission field longer than I had been in the MTC. Woo hoo!

Some fun notes about our baptisms, when we were making the program, we asked the 9-year-old what hymn she wanted for the opening hymn, and she wanted the First Noel, and we were like, Uh... how about another one? haha it was funny. She is way cute.

Well don't have much time, but I love each and every one of you on this email list.
Have the most fantastic day!

Cinco de Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo! Nothing is really different except for when we went to go buy our food today there were tons of people in the grocery store!
There are tons of holidays here it seems like, or maybe they are all bunched together. So far there has been Holy Week (Easter), Labor Day ( or something like it), Childrens day, this week is mothers day, and I think there was another one.

This week was really hot, a member told us it was 52 degrees celcius!!!! Which is about 120 degrees Farhenheit. I believe it. We were sweating tons! But then the rains came!!!!! It rains really hard, but the people tell us that this is nothing, and there are hurricanes in june and july and all the streets fill with water. I think we will be fine. One day it started pouring so we took shelter in someones garage, the people who lived there (who we didnt know) invited us in their house. The rain didnt let up, but we had an appointment and they gave us umbrellas to use! The people in Campeche are really just so nice. I love them. This week we are going to return the umbrellas, and try to share a message with them, but you can tell a lot of people here are really catholic. You go in there house and they have virgin mary shrines all over the place. There is really no use trying to keep sharing the gospel with them after a couple times, because they are pretty set in their ways.

Another thing, there are lots of Jehovahs witnesses. And they are always out and about. One day we went to go visit one of our investigators, only to find her sitting in her living room having a lesson with 2 Jehovahs Witnesses!!!! Caught red handed.

Somedays spanish just comes out of my mouth without thinking! Those are good moments. However sometimes I still struggle with it, but I am definitely improving.

We have a baptism planned for our investigator Candy this week!!!! We are so excited. Candy is really awesome and we know that the gospel will be such a blessing in her life. She has gone through a lot and we have already seen how the gospel of Jesus Christ has been a light in her life.

One thing that we have seen is that when people are starting to know the gospel, they face hard times, because Satan does not want them to make these choices. But some of our investigators have so much faith, they are great examples.

We are helping one of our investigators, Cristina, to marry her boyfriend that she lives with so she can be baptized soon! She is so awesome and already has a testimony of the gospel. So we will probably be planning a wedding this month as well.

People really do change through faith and repentance, and following Jesus Christ.
What a blessing this gospel is in our lives. We talk about eternal families so much, and it makes me miss each one of you! Hope you are having a great week!

Love you tons and tons and tons!
